Maria Galen is a dealer in old master paintings, specializing in Flemish paintings of the seventeenth century.
During her studies at Münster university Maria focused on 17th century Dutch and Flemish art. Her dissertation was the catalogue raisonné of the works of the Flemish painter Johann Boeckhorst (1604-1668). It was awarded the “Fürstin von Gallitzin” – Prize, that is given every second year for outstanding research projects related to Westphalian art and culture.
Maria worked at Christie’s Amsterdam for some time. She then decided to follow her passion for art by starting an independent dealership in 2011 and founded Galen Gallery.
Besides acquiring paintings at auctions the Galen Gallery buys works of art from private clients. The gallery also offers the evaluation of objects, advice regarding conservation as well as a general consulting service for buyers and sellers at auctions.
In 2015 Maria gave a course at Münster University “Introduction to the Art Market”.
Among our clients we have welcomed major musea and institutions worldwide and prominent private-collectors.
