Nicola Grassi received his training from Antonio Carneo and then moved to Venice. There he worked with the artist Nicolo Cassana, among others. Stays in Bavaria and Dalmatia are also attested. His complete works have hardly been researched so far.
The present drawing shows a young woman who, together with a helper, is performing a sacrifice in honor of Venus, the goddess of love. The sacrificial altar is decorated by Venus‘ companion, Cupid.
