The painting refers to Parmigianino’s Amor, today in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna. Emperor Rudolf II. appreciated the work very much and commissioned numerous copies of this painting. His court painter, Joseph Heintz, painted at least two large and one small version on copper.
