Stephan Christian von Stengel was an amateur etcher. and draughtsman. Born in Mannheim, he worked for elector Karl Theodor von Pfalz-Bayern. He followed the ideas of the Enlightenment. Von Stengel was a great collector and author of the catalogue raisonné of the prints of Ferdinand Kobell.
